IKH NUUDEL (GREAT Nomadism)
On the path of the Blue Spotted nomads…
High altitude mountain migration “Ikh Nuudel” tour: Nomad migration to crossing the high altitude mountain to reach the summer/autumn places. Available in June and August. Migration will happen by camel and horse to cross the mountains with the herds and nomad people. Mongolia is still practicing traditional nomads in combination with modern nomads. The migration of people crossing the Altai is called Ers Undriin Nuudel, while the people of Erdeneburen soum move across Tsambagarav Khairkhan. This is a migration to high mountains and cool summer camps before the summer flies and mosquitoes increase. We are getting acquainted with this traditional movement and organizing a field trip with herders to learn about life and nomadic customs.
IKH NUUDEL – To this day, the nomads of the western part of Mongolia are still doing a combination of traditional and modern nomads. The migration over the Altai Mountains is traditionally called the Great Migration (Ikh Nuudel), High Altitude Migration (Ers Unduriin Nuudel). The reason for this migration is to live in a high altitude cool place in summer time before the summer flies and mosquitoes increase.
Trip will take in place Khovd aimag, the birthplace of the central and multi-ethnic region, along the western region, which is known not only in Mongolia but also in Asia as the Kingdom of the Left Hand.
Khovd province is located in the Altai Mountains of the Great Altai Mountain ranges, where there are large mountains such as Munkhkhairkhan, Khukhserkh, Baatar Khairkhan, Tsambagarav and Myangan Ugalzat, and the Gobi steppe covers about 20% of the aimag’s territory.
The Zakhchin and Uuld tribes of the western part of Mongolia are still practicing traditional nomads in combination with modern nomads. The migration of people crossing the Altai is called Ers Undriin Nuudel (High Altitude movement), while the Uuld tribes, people of Erdeneburen soum move across Tsambagarav Khairkhan. This is a migration to high mountains and cool summer camps before the summer flies and mosquitoes increase. We are getting acquainted with this traditional movement and organizing a field trip with herders to learn about life and nomadic customs. There will be no tourist camps or resorts in the area, so there will be a tent tour where the nomadic people.
Places to visit: Gurvan Tsenkheriin Agui ( Three Blue Cave: prehistoric cave paintings. The drawings date back to the 40.000 ago upper Paleolithic period, depicting animals such as stags, buffalo, oxen, ibex, lions, Argali sheep, antelopes, camels, elephants, ostriches, and mammoth).
Gorge of Shijigt, the roughest flow Khovd river whereas canyon competition happens and Durgun lake.
